Dedication paying off for Pens' Evgeni Malkin

Evgeni Malkin is an acknowledged cheater.

As a teenager, his mom said, Malkin would complain of a sore arm and quit tennis matches against his brother late in a decisive set when defeat seemed imminent.

Since joining teammates' card games on Penguins charter flights, he has bullied his way to wins. All is well if Malkin plays the proper hand, but somebody is at fault if he does not and teammates concede defeat rather than deal with his sharp jabs or sleight-of-hand deals,Purchase Swiss Brands canadagooseparka and enjoy luxury feeling. winger Matt Cooke said.

The surest sign of Malkin's willingness to put himself over, at least in the opinion of his dad, are the nights when he sabotages his girlfriend during games of Narde,Best womenhandbags Have you spent a lot of time looking for the best replica watch for you? a two-player board game similar to backgammon.
That approach was crucial in October, when his surgically repaired right knee was slightly tweaked and forced him to miss seven games. By the time of Crosby's first comeback Nov. 21, Malkin had scored only five goals and produced just 14 points in 13 games.

Crosby played in eight games from Nov. 21-Dec. 5,Publique anuncios sobre shoppingbagfactory gratis. and Malkin surged with four goals and 10 points but it was during the next 40 contests that he made his MVP push. He produced 29 goals and 60 points in those games without Crosby, collecting three five-point performances and multiple points in 13 games.

Equally noticeable to teammates was the willingness to handle captain-like duties such as speaking with the media and setting a tone at and away from the rink.

He managed the latter, winger James Neal said, but "just being Geno" and everybody has their own idea of what that entails.

Cooke: "Any opportunity he can to bring up a situation that was funny, just to rehash it for a few laughs, he's going to do it."

Neal recalled a game when Malkin fed him for a backdoor tap-in goal and immediately started nagging him.

"First thing he said was, 'I'm open for pass back,' " Neal said. "He's always open, that's for sure. Geno always tells you he was open."

The pregame tradition of two-touch soccer contests players must kick the ball twice in the air when it comes to them provided Malkin opportunities to serve as both a ball hog, wing Chris Kunitz said, and a cut up, wing Pascal Dupuis said.

"Oh, he's a bully when we play soccer,You can find all the alexanderwangreplica you need here. always picking in a funny way at guys," Dupuis said. "He'll try to get reactions to throw you off so he can win. He was all over me about my points streak. He wants a reaction.Buy authenticmonclerjackets are becoming popular. He'll just keep picking until he gets it."

Malkin scored a reaction from nearly everybody who attended the unveiling of the Mario Lemieux statue last month. Sitting in the front row, he dressed head to toe in denim a look perfect for Pittsburgh in the early 1980s.

"To us sometimes he looks a little different, but to him he looks nice," goalie Marc-Andre Fleury said, adding the all-denim attire was not Malkin's most curious fashion decision.

"He has this royal blue I think it's leather jacket, and it's pretty tight. That's the worst."

Defenseman Brooks Orpik, once Malkin's traveling roommate, said Malkin understands North American culture better now and is more comfortable showing his true personality. He always has had a natural leadership style, albeit one that is not in the traditional fiery, rally-cry mold, Orpik said.

Crosby, no stranger to having his personality placed under a microscope, said growing into a leadership role is a "matter of being comfortable with yourself."

"Geno is," Crosby said. "He has that smile on his face and is at ease with everything going on."

SAVED FROM THE TITANIC

It happened a hundred years ago, but the tragedy continues to fascinate the world.

At 11:40 p.m. on April 14, 1912, the RMS Titanic, the pinnacle of then-modern technology, a floating palace of immense dimensions, sideswiped a North Atlantic iceberg while en route from England to New York. Riveted plates buckled and water began pouring in.

The ship sank around 2:20 a.m. on April 15. Only 710 of the 2,224 people on board survived,Burglar walks away with louisvuittonleatherhandbags from Summit home. including nine people from Southwest Michigan.

There were not enough lifeboats to accommodate all those aboard, and many victims with life jackets died from hypothermia in the icy waters.

"It's the world's most famous shipwreck," said Tracy Gierada,Visit the premier bestvalentinohandbags in Melbourne Australia. curator of the North Berrien Historical Museum in Coloma. "It's the one everyone has heard of. The fact that it was the world's largest passenger steamer on her maiden voyage, that she was supposed to be unsinkable, it was just a very tragic irony.Trade Leads for womensjacket, Search ecplaza.net for buying and selling leads, It has a very prominent place, and rightly so, in the history books."

One of the local survivors, Ruth Becker Blanchard, died in 1990 in Santa Barbara, Calif., where she had moved after retiring.

Gierada said Blanchard was cremated, and her remains were buried at sea at the site of the sinking. One other passenger and a crew member chose to be buried in the same fashion, she said.

A Titanic treat

Titanic enthusiasts are in for a double treat in the next couple of weeks.

Gierada and Jennifer Quail of the Museum at Southwestern Michigan College in Dowagiac will present a program on "Local Links to the Titanic Disaster" at 7 p.m. April 17 at the North Berrien Historical Museum. The program is free and will include a slide show.

At the annual meeting of The History Center at Courthouse Square in Berrien Springs at 7 p.m. April 24, curator Robert Myers will present another show about local survivors of the disaster. Myers will also talk about some little-known facts behind the story and give a Power Point presentation on the wreck.

The tragedy shook the world's faith in technology,Essential-Watches.com sells only 100% hermesbirkinreplica. Myers said.

"At that time in history there was a real belief that technology would really be able to solve all the world's problems," Myers said. "There was so much changing at that time, the advent of the automobile and the airplane and radio and so on. There were immense changes going on in the world, and the Titanic really epitomized that. It was the largest moving man-made object in the world, and all the latest technology went into it. ... Here's all this wonderful technology that's going to solve all these problems, and it's destroyed, almost instantly. The next important aspect of authenticpalphlaurenpolo lies on their appearances."

The ship was part of the White Star Line, and line officials "never said it was unsinkable," Myers said. "But some publications did."

Myers said interest in the ship faded over the years until it was reawakened by Walter Lord's fine book "A Night to Remember," published in 1955. That was followed by a successful movie of the same name in 1958. James Cameron's "Titanic" was released in 1997 and introduced the story to new generations of people.

Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli looks to have indulged in a bit of retail therapy after admitting yesterday that he scored with Wayne Rooney hooker Jenny Thompson.

Seen here carrying a Harvey Nichols shopping bag at the club's Carrington training ground,Buy China real wholesaleoutlet from China . defiant Mario doesn't seem like the kind of guy to shop the pain away following his confession that he cheated on his girlfriend rather than pay "hush money".

Or could he be treating his Italian lover Raffaella Fico in an attempt to gift and make up after the latest revelations in a footballing career recorded in as many headlines from the front of newspapers as the back?

While the sun looked to be shining in Manchester, bad boy Balotelli seemed keen to avoid any more heat with his hood pulled over his head and wearing sunglasses.

Also wearing baggy tracksuit trousers, the 21-year-old adopted a lower profile look than when he was seen yesterday with Fico in the first picture of the couple since details emerged about his fling with the vice girl dubbed "Juicy Jeni".

At her family's smart detached home in Bolton yesterday, Thompson refused to discuss her meetings with the controversial footballer.

Heavily-made up and wearing a brown jacket and scarf, she said: "I have no comment to make."

Manager Roberto Mancini today defended his maverick player,Great Promotions on Greatest Purchase San Francisco Giants Franchise Fitted parkaforcheap Shops. claiming that Balotelli's conduct on and off the pitch is blown out of proportion.Buy China real wholesaleoutlet from China .Visit the premier ralphlaurenpolo in Melbourne Australia.

Comparing reactions to Balotelli's behaviour as being "like a war", Mancini told a press conference: "I would like Mario to play, score and finish the other situation.

"I think many people have different behaviour with Mario."

Elizabeth Warren: Yes She Can?

It was a grim, sleety day in Chicopee, a gritty postindustrial town in western Massachusetts, where paint flakes off worn-out bridges and boarded-up factories. At a community relations luncheon, kind security guards were opening back doors and holding out umbrellas for the few willing to brave the freezing slush. This was not a campaign stop, we reporters were told decisively by Alice Buckner, the business and community liaison at the nonpartisan, federally funded Westover Job Corps Center. If Elizabeth Warren showed up, she would be visiting with students,Welcome to Find The Best Watches Online-authenticmonclerjackets. not campaigning.

Around us, upbeat young Jobs Corps enrollees—ages 16 to 24, brown and black and white, skinny and fat, tattooed and pierced and dyed—were setting up the room and the banquet table. Among our handouts were heartbreaking student essays about choosing jobs over drugs; gastric bypass surgery over helplessness; and overcoming bullying by practicing the new skills of energy, enthusiasm and hard work.

Chicopee's mayor, Michael Bissonnette, took the podium to tell the students that he had grown up in the projects, and he knew their biggest problem—themselves.Intensify your own Grace with replicalvhandbag. Massachusetts independents loved Ted Kennedy, who brought home the bacon, whose constituent services were unparalleled, who came from the same revered family as Jack and Bobby and who fought for the commonwealth's regular folks—factory and office workers, fishermen, firemen. When Kennedy died, voters had a choice between Coakley, a woman in a state that had never elected a female senator, a progressive Democrat who had spent her adult life winning all the right offices, and Brown, a self-proclaimed independent who drove around the state in his barn jacket and pickup truck, emphasizing his manly ordinariness. They picked Brown.

Coakley lost for many reasons. Brown tarred her as part of the Boston Democratic machine, insular and uninterested in the rest of the state. One of her backers stressed to me that Coakley's funders poured money into the primary,Swiss monclerjacketswomens offer genuine timepieces from Omega. assuming that, as had long been the case, the Democratic primary was the election. One Falmouth Democratic activist confessed to me that after the primary, some of his fellow Democrats were so certain the race was over that they went on vacation without even taking out absentee ballots. The more common story line is that Coakley just didn't campaign hard enough. As Diane Parvin of the Barnstable Democratic Town Committee put it, "I worked harder for Martha Coakley than Martha Coakley worked for Martha Coakley." When Coakley was asked whether her passivity was giving Brown an advantage, she notoriously answered, "As opposed to standing outside Fenway Park, in the cold, shaking hands?" Sports radio and morning shock-jocks, among others, never let her live that down.

The WSBeat: Pilferer at the party; surprise surrender; more

If you and your significant other are tying the knot and collecting gifts in a public place, goodfendihandbags assign someone to guard the checks-and-gift-cards pile. Last week, a suspicious person was seen wandering around a local reception, wearing what looked like a homemade dark blue sweater with a “security” patch sewn on it. Someone later tried to use gift cards from this wedding at a Westwood Village store. The suspect was described as white, male, age 22-29, about 5’8”, with a slim build and light brown hair.

Just after 2 a.m. Friday, officers were on routine patrol in an alley in the 3000 block of SW Avalon, when a man spotted their car, raised his hands in the air, and walked toward them. He twice provided false names but finally came clean, admitting he was wanted on a warrant ($15,000 for residential burglary). Officers confiscated two knives, two wallets (not his), a key chain with keys for several cars, gloves, and spark plugs (commonly used to break car windows). The SeaTac resident was booked into King County Jail for the warrant.

10 more summaries ahead:

Wednesday afternoon around 1:30, a resident of the 3200 block of 41st SW was working in the basement when he heard a creaking sound and then noticed two teens peeking in his basement window. When confronted, the two claimed they were looking for “Mike.” A few hours later, the victim noticed that his laptop was missing from a living room table. The suspects are described as white, male, both with brown hair and buzz cuts, 15-17 years old, 5’6” to 6” tall, medium build.

On Tuesday morning, a neighbor confronted a stranger who was trying to break into a utility trailer in the yard of a home in the 3300 block of 31st SW. The suspect fled the scene in a white Chevy Astro Van, and was described as a white male, 5’6”, of medium build, and bald.

Officers investigated reports of a man and a woman shooting up in a truck parked near Raymond and 35th SW. The woman inside the vehicle denied that anyone was with her and was “shocked” when an officer emerged from a nearby business with her boyfriend of many years in tow. The pair live on Vashon Island and finally admitted to shooting heroin. Officers found no narcotics, but they did note that the woman possessed many syringes, authenticpalphlaurenpolo a bunch of knives, and one live chicken. She and the bird took wing, while the 33-year-old man was booked into King County Jail on a $10,000 misdemeanor warrant.

On Tuesday evening, a delivery driver called 911 to report that three teens had stolen a shoe-box package from the front seat of his van while he was parked near 32nd and Juneau. Officers quickly found one of the suspects, who raised his hands in the air and exclaimed, “I didn’t do anything!” just as two shoes dropped onto the ground from underneath his coat. The 13-year-old (wanted as a missing runaway) was held at the precinct and then turned over to his stepmother.

Knowing from previous encounters that the teen was facing hard times (father deceased; mom on the street), an officer wondered if the boy’s report of being slashed on the arm by a stranger might not be true. He expressed those thoughts kindly to the boy, who immediately broke down in tears and admitted there had been no assault. He also admitted that he was depressed and thinking about suicide.ralphlaurenpolo A mental health specialist is now on the case.

New ways we can fly the flag

Last week NHK, Japan's licence-fee funded BBC equivalent, flew to the UK to transmit five hours of London-centric live broadcasting. I know this because Sir Paul Smith tells me half an hour of it was dedicated to him showing the camera crew around our snazzy new Velodrome.Buy wholesale new louisvuittonborse products on TradeTang. It's fair to say Olympics mania has kicked off.
Stella McCartney was right last week when she said "that flag is going to be seen everywhere". We need to be a bit savvy about marketing our Britishness over the next five months. We don't want to flog That Flag to death.

But maybe we already have. Way before the Cool Britannia car-crash of the late Nineties, British brands were milking their Britishness - whatever that elusive quality might be - on an industrial scale. Actually, the industrial scale in the UK more or less ground to a halt on account of all those brands discovering that while their British spirit was alive and kicking, UK manufacturing had become increasingly unviable.

Paul Smith to be honoured at British Fashion Awards

By the way, when I say Britishness is an elusive quality, I am simply extrapolating from numerous historians who seem to have found it so tricky to pin down Britishness that they've been forced to sign lucrative publishing deals in order to explore the concept further.

Ask any market stall trader or, for that matter, upscale brands for a definition and they don't have any problems defining a quintessentially British product. All it takes is a Union flag, a picture of the Queen, a tartan trim, Kate Moss, something that vaguely resembles a Barbour and you've nailed it.

And that's where the rot's setting in. As McCartney correctly surmises, that red, white and blue ensign will be seared on to our retinas by August. One gazillion tins of shortbread will have been sold by that sacred British institution, Harrods of Qatar. Shops with names such as Highland Mist and Lady Hurley of Cotswoldshire will have been stripped of Scottish cashmere and floral tea services. The cupboard of British clichés will have been picked bare. And everyone will feel just a little bit cheated.

Mencyclopaedia: Paul Smith

Wouldn't it be so much better if brands could dig a little deeper into their heritage (even if does only date back to 1994) and think more laterally about what Britishness means? They might even discover they've got something unique and authentic.

Sir Paul Smith,Burglar walks away with goodchloehandbags from Summit home. generally considered one of the most British of British designers, and certainly the most successful, says he never set out to trade on his Britishness. That may be because when his business began to take off in the Seventies, Britishness meant Robin Reliants,The following are some of the steps included in buying louisvuittonleatherhandbags. three-day weeks and Confessions of a Window Cleaner.

It was the rest of the world, piecing together his quirky sense of humour, snappy Savile-Row-quality-meets-Carnaby-Street-swagger tailoring, offbeat colour sense, eccentric humour and charming persistence, that defined him as the soul of Britishness. And very lucrative this soul has turned out to be, which is why so many other brands have tried to follow him.
The sobering aspect to this is that Sir Paul says that when he recently asked some Far Eastern business partners whether, after all this time, they now regarded British Heritage as a hallmark akin to say French Luxury or Italian Leather, they smiled politely and said they saw it as a fashion trend, which they gave another five years. We really do need to start being clever. In the meantime, here are five British style signifiers that, in the words of Sir Tom The Voice Jones, we need to own. And none of them is a Union flag.

1 Knitwear It's not exclusively a British commodity. But look what happens when Italians buy up olde UK labels such as Ballantyne. They don't just pink it and shrink it, they bling it and sling it - down the plughole. We do Aran. We know Cable. Fairisles R Us. No one does it better. Or they shouldn't. Ditto layers, tweeds and waxed jackets. But let's make sure we do them in fashionable colours, not just shades of slime or cowpat - or red, white and blue.

2 Catalogues featuring unfeasibly sunny vignettes and colourful beachhuts are so old school. Let's do some grey-sky thinking and big up the true shiveriness of the British beach experience. Let invention blossom. The furkini (fake obviously, we're a nation of animal lovers) could become as evocative a British symbol as the trench-coat.

3 Freckles We may have to fight the CanAdians over this, but freckles on a pale model are as British as acorns.High-End miumiuhandbags at Convenient Locations . Especially when placed alongside a heavily air-brushed Revlon ad.

4 Sulky teenagers Americans have smiley Miley Cyrus. The French don't have teens but a strange breed of eerily sophisticated mini-30 year olds. We have Edie Campbell's gimlet glint and curled lip. They're what give our trenches and tweeds edge.

5 Savile Row Why the nation that invented tailoring ever wears anything else is a mystery. Ban tracksuits and annex khaki.Buy these lancelhandbags2012 on line. It really works for us, even in winter. Let's hide it from everyone else. They can have mustard and yellow instead.

Rise of the copycat book cover

As the book jacket stares at potential extinction due to the inexorable rise of the faceless ebook, it's not doing itself any favours. Look at the new books tables in your local Waterstones and you can't help but be struck by a sense of sameyness. In an entertaining blog on the TLS site this week, David Horspool – adding to those examples of design cliches previously noted by Private Eye and the website causticcovercritic – identifies three trends – Legs, Backs of Women Looking Over Water, and Tiny Men Walking Into The Distance. (Single Female Eye is among others also trending).
Covers that copy others, however, are not usually the result of laziness that hopes to avoid detection but of deliberate policy. Why do three current thrillers, by Sam Bourne, Michael Dobbs and Jo Nesbo, all feature Tiny Men, though not necessarily walking into the distance? Probably because that's the jacket signature of Robert Ludlum's Jason Bourne yarns. Why do new novels by Hakan Nesser and Jussi Adler-Olsen and all Nesbo's previous thrillers show a close-up of a woman's face? Because that, breaching normal cover protocol (faces are taboo because specific, supposedly preventing reader identification), was the jacket style for Stieg Larsson, and mimicking his look is a subtle way of asserting a claim to be his successor.
Why do the fronts of the bonkbusters of Louise Bagshawe, aka Mensch, use gold text and a hint of pink? Because those of Jackie Collins do. Why are all chicklit jackets in pastel colours with similarly unshouty lettering? Because it worked for early exponents such as Marian Keyes, contrasting with the giant images of women,my wife's gift for my mom was goodhermesbirkin . bold use of words and brash colours of the jackets of 80s women's commercial fiction, and later writers such as Sophie Kinsella have followed suit.
Tacitly reinforcing the blurb message ("you loved x, so you'll love y too"), covers in intended bestsellers are a sales tool, not usually a creative response to a novel, as is illustrated by a comment on Horspool's blog by the author Marika Cobbold, who says that beautiful designs for her latest involving a cup were vetoed by book chain buyers demanding "photographic covers with people". Her jacket ended up exemplifying the Legs trend.SocialPicks is tracking the performance of diorhandbags .
Things are a little different in literary fiction, where a few covers that look drawn, as opposed to the dominant Photoshopped photograph look, are tolerated,Never retail for lessthan $250 Moreover if the canadagooseparka claimsthewatch is Tag Aquaracer 20082 on saleor . since simply appearing as if an artist has been at work makes a statement – a hand-crafted, one-off jacket says that the book is also like that. Yet a glance at the Guardian's books site's gallery of the Orange prize longlist's covers shows that clichés – the lake,New travellingbagfactory at discount prices from SwissLuxury. the badly framed and so faceless woman, the window or balcony – are prevalent here too, as well as the risibly literal (a pink hotel for The Pink Hotel,IWC watches are warranted by our cosmeticbagfactory for a period of one year from the original date of purchase. a sealed letter for The Sealed Letter).
A jacket that attempts to be true to the singularity of an author's vision, not whom they resemble, goes against the grain for publishers, but perhaps they should ponder the results of allowing this to take place.
Of reigning winners of major prizes, Suzanne Deane's jacket for The Sense of an Ending (praised by Julian Barnes in his Booker victory speech) elegantly combines a dandelion head with a burnt pages effect. Wuon-Gean Ho's design for Tea Obreht's Orange winner The Tiger's Wife, an oriental-looking girl or young woman astride a big cat, teases you to decide if it's faux-naif or just naif – and handily features orange. Roy Knipe responds to Andrew Miller's Costa Book of the Year Pure, set in 18th-century Paris, with ravens pestering an architect as he works on his plans. None of the three looks like anything else in bookshops. Could it be that if its jacket singles your novel out, award judges are more likely to do so too?

Springdale resident has interesting hobby

It seems that the task of recycling has become an art form for some. Springdale resident Marie Henstridge is proof positive that you can take simple things that usually end up in landfill sites and turn it into something useful and beautiful. Using her creative talent for arts and crafts she has taken the art form of crocheting with plastic, which is simply called "plarn" to a new level and created a line of attractive, usable products. Plarn is simply a word that describes plastic yarn which is created using plastic shopping bags, which using a special technique, are cut into a continuous narrow strands of working yarn.

She had heard people talking about "plarn baskets" and was curious to find out how they were made so she researched it on the internet and found that creating with plarn is quite common and baskets is just one of many ideas for using plarn in arts and crafts. This art form is fairly new to Marie, however working with plarn has been around for years, probably before it was given a name. Plastic bread bags were once used for making rugs and over the last few years various volunteer organizations have been making plastic mats for sleeping on for people in third world countries.

Marie has always had a talent for crafts and she spends a lot of time crocheting, knitting and quilting and she's also quite passionate about recycling and believes in doing whatever she can to be environmentally friendly, replicahandbags and she understands that plastic such as shopping bags are an environmental nightmare.authenticjackets It just seemed a natural progression for Marie to incorporate plarn into her crocheting and knitting to pursue eco friendly designs.

When I first met with Marie she was crocheting a beautiful lady's wide brim hat which caught my eye because it was so pretty. What I didn't realize at first was that she was crocheting with plastic yarn. If I hadn't seen it I wouldn't have believed it. She proceeded to demonstrate the technique of cutting a shopping bag into a continuous strand of yarn and explained that it is easy but quite time consuming. The brim of the hat she was working on has 9 shopping bags crocheted in it so far, and it takes 55 shopping bags to make 1 reusable shopping bag. For anyone who already knows how to crochet it would be quite easy to do once you know how to make your plarn, she said.

Marie showed me many of the items she has made and in addition to the hat, authentichandbag there was the reusable shopping bag, Easter baskets, makeup cases, purses, clothes pin bags and cup holders.womensjacket The finished product is quite impressive and could be compared to work done with straw or hemp, travellingbagfactory however it has a unique texture and is very durable and easy to wash. The durability and the thickness of the designs can vary depending on the thickness of the plastic used which is great because it allows for a wider variety of designs.

Her creative way of recycling through arts and crafts does not end with plarn. For years she has been reusing waste materials to create something useful. She makes Christmas baskets, placemats, party hats and gift tags using Christmas greeting cards she has received over the years and she uses old T-shirts and cuts them into strips to crochet clothes pin bags and rugs. Marie is retired and spends much of her time doing arts and crafts and she also volunteers a lot of her time in the community. I asked Marie what she plans on doing with her designs and she's not sure at this point but may consider entering a craft show once she has sufficient inventory. Some of her items have been donated as prizes at charity fundraisers and she will be spending time at Valley Vista Retirement Centre this week to demonstrate the art of plarn to the residents there.

Augusta National Golf Club dilemma: Admit women members or snub Masters Tournament sponsor IBM?

Augusta National Golf Club, host of next week's Masters Tournament, cheapcanadagoose finds itself in a bind this year, Bloomberg Businessweek reported. Historically, it has invited the CEOs of companies that sponsor the Masters Tournament to attend the competition as members. The chief executives are given green members' jackets to wear and can roam the grounds freely or play a round.

However, the CEO of longtime sponsor IBM is now a woman, Ginni Rometty. And Augusta National has never admitted a woman member since it opened 80 years ago.

More from GlobalPost: Rometty is IBM's first female CEO

Said to be among Augusta National's 300 members, according to the Washington Post: Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, Louis V.alexanderwangreplica Gerstner Jr., Pete Petersen, Kenneth Chenault, Sanford Weill and George Schultz. The previous eight CEOs of IBM reportedly were all members.

"They have a dilemma on many levels," Marcia Chambers, senior research scholar in law and journalist in residence at Yale University Law School, told Bloomberg News. "If there's been a tradition of certain CEOs, then they should look at this new CEO in the same way. The only thing that makes her any different is her gender."

Spokesmen for the Masters Tournament and IBM declined to comment on this story when contacted by Bloomberg News.diorhandbags

Women's rights advocate Martha Burk, who led a protest against Augusta National's male-only tradition in 2003, told Golfdigest.com that IBM should withdraw its Masters sponsorship if Rometty is not invited to join the club. Augusta National's male-only membership "is an archaic policy that does not agree with their company's values," she said.coolerbagfactory "The board of directors has a responsibility here too. The board needs to distance the company from this club.canadagoosecoat But they've had that responsibility for the past nine years, and they haven't done anything about it."

She added, "If they don't do anything, that is a sign of disrespect for their new CEO."

Toronto man leads winning Vanderbilt bridge tournament team

Talk bridge to almost anyone short of retirement age and watch their eyes glaze over.

But beyond the stereotype, bridge is a test of wits and strategy among the best in the world — more challenging than chess, as gruelling and serious as a poker tournament.louisvuittonleatherhandbags
"Marriages break up over bridge. People give up their business just to play bridge," says Leslie Amoils, the Toronto captain of a six-man team which won the Vanderbilt Trophy this past weekend.

The Vanderbilt is to bridge what the Green Jacket is to the Masters.guccicaps And in Memphis, Tenn., the teams vying for the honour weren't entirely of the expected demographic.

"They talk about the young guns of bridge — I'm likely the oldest guy on my team," 54-year-old Amoils says. "The best players today are the younger players, and that never used to be the case."

The American Contract Bridge League's Vanderbilt Knockout Teams national bridge championship is an open tournament that sees the best in the world advance through brackets during the seven-day event.monclerouterwear1
It's the lesser known March Madness, and it gets pretty serious. Once a match starts, if a player has to go to the bathroom, an official or opponent goes along to prevent cheating. At the tables, screens are set up so you can't read cues from your partner's face.

Amoils grew up in South Africa and moved to Canada in 1990, where he owns an auction company. His bridge team is made up of five men from around the world, including an American rocket scientist, and Darren Wolpert, a 37-year-old Toronto investment adviser who has been playing since he was a teenager.
In the final nerve-wracking match, Amoils' team beat a squad of Americans and Canadians they were friends with.

"That's not always the case. There are teams that play with a lot of animosity, who don't like each other," Amoils said.

When the final score came in — 138 to 88 — Amoils' team "went crazy" in the way bridge players do. Appropriately, so as not to hurt the feelings of the other team. Then everyone went to the bar.
"It cost me a lot of money, I'll put it that way," Amoils said.

There is no prize money with the Vanderbilt — only prestige and a replica of the silver cup.
Amoils knows what it's like to be heartbroken at the Vanderbilt. A Cinderella run brought the team to the finals last year, but they lost in the last couple of hands.

He is not a professional bridge player — bridge is a hobby, which made the win that much better. Amoils and Wolpert will make a run at the Canadian Bridge Championships in late April, and hope to play at the World Championships after that.

In South Africa, Amoils taught himself the card game in his early 20s, and became so good he made the national team. In the army at the time, he became a minor celebrity because of his status, even if few understood what bridge was about.
Wolpert picked up bridge at 16 because his entire family played. He credits his mom, who he calls a very good player, with teaching him the game.

Every weekend, Wolpert and Amoils get together for six or seven hours and practise. In addition to tournaments, they sometimes play at Hazel's Bridge Club, operated by Wolpert's mother in North York.
Wolpert says bridge is about "having good agreements, and knowing how your partner is going to play."

"Out of all the mind games, goodbackpackfactory so to speak, it's the most complicated and toughest," Amoils says.1northfacejackets "I used to refer to it as chess squared."

College Football Traditions: Why Are Cheerleaders Still in Use?

It's 2012. College football bears scant resemblance to its pre-war iteration.

The players are now all genetic freaks, where you'd better be either at least 230 pounds, a world-class sprinter, or a cannon-armed wizard who can hit a penny with a football from 60 yards away.
Technology pervades every aspect of the sport, from the precise engineering of the ball, to the synthetic turf to the uniforms using materials that didn't exist 15 years ago, to the multitude of cameras on hand for every type of angle imaginable, all available for replay seconds later on the HD jumbo-tron.diorhandbags

In fact, just about the only things that haven't changed about football in the last 75 years are the 100-yard field, the 11 men on each side, the referees in their silly black and white stripes...and the cheerleaders.
For sex appeal and satisfying the male gaze

This would be a decent argument to make in terms of the dance squads and their routines (some of which can be downright salacious, especially outside of the NCAA).goodfendihandbags But there isn't much about the cheerleaders themselves that's very exploitative.
Yes, the outfits are very skimpy and flattering when it's warm out, but they'll wear jackets and stuff like the rest of us in lousy weather. Further, the chants, stunts and everything aren't evenphilliplimhandbags remotely suggestive. They're downright family-friendly. It's not exactly difficult to titillate an audience, but college cheerleaders don't even try (which, let's be honest, is a good thing).

It's also worth noting that the professional and international sports are way, way higher on the sex appeal aspect than college sports. College cheerleaders are, pretty much across the board, wholesome. I suspect that's not a coincidence, but I'm not sure why that's the case.

Because of sexism
Perhaps there's something to the notion that "men go on football field, women wear skimpy clothes" is a vestige of the narrow, rigid gender roles that typified mid-20th century America, and that cheerleaders' continued existence only reinforces those. And yet, again, there are male cheerleaders doing and saying pretty much the same things that female cheerleaders do. Moreover, those female cheerleaders also cheer at women's sporting events, too.

And finally on this topic, schoolbagfactorythere is only one school that goodhermesbirkin sticks to male cheerleaders (or yell leaders, as they're called). But I'm not exactly sure Texas A&M has kept this tradition out of a deep abiding respect for women's equality.

Terps oust defending champ A&M in regional semis

Maryland's players didn't panic when they fell behind by 18 in the first half and trailed by 11 midway through the second. These Terrapins have proven they can come back from any deficit, and it's a big reason why they're within a game of the Final Four.
Laurin Mincy had 21 points and a career-best 12 rebounds to help Maryland rally past defending national champion Texas A&M 81-74 on Sunday in the semifinals of the NCAA tournament's Raleigh Regional.
Alyssa Thomas added 21 points and nine rebounds for the second-seeded Terps (31-4), who fought their way back and held the Aggies (24-11) to just one basket over the final 7 1/2 minutes.
"This team knows and has the confidence it can come back against anyone," Maryland coach Brenda Frese said.Trade Leads for womensjacket, Search ecplaza.net for buying and selling leads,
The Terrapins rallied from 20 down early in the second half to beat Georgia Tech in January, then overcame a 10-point deficit in the first half to beat the Yellow Jackets on the road a month later. They also came back from 12 down in the first half to top Duke in February and trailed Louisville by nine in the first half of their last NCAA game.
The Terrapins have won 10 straight and 13 of 14 since a home loss to Virginia Tech on Jan. 26. They're back in a regional final for the first time since 2009 when they were in Raleigh as a No. 1 seed. They'll face top-seeded Notre Dame with a chance to reach the Final Four for the first time since winning the national championship in 2006.
"I do feel this group has all the intangibles to be able to win it all," Frese said. "It's a team that genuinely cares about each other, has each other's back and is really selfless. They don't care who receives the attention. It's very similar to the team that we had in 2006."

Thomas fed Mincy on the break after a turnover for a transition layup. Thomas followed that with a jumper in the lane with 50 seconds left after an offensive rebound from Mincy to make it 79-74, which all but sealed the win as the Aggies missed a series of desperate 3-pointers in the final seconds.

Woman who embezzled from John's Appliance City not happy with sentence

A former bookkeeper at a local appliance store recently sent to prison for stealing nearly $1 million is not happy with her punishment.
Carrie Elizabeth Pifer, 28, of South Daytona has filed an appeal of her 10-year prison sentence, which was handed down in February by Circuit Judge R. Michael Hutcheson.
Pifer had worked for John's Appliance City for nearly a decade when an internal audit uncovered the missing funds. John's founder, John Hinton, said Pifer skimmed "what she decided to take" from the bank deposits at a rate of $250,000 per year.
"I treated her like family," Hinton said in court when Pifer was sentenced.Never retail for lessthan $250 Moreover if the ralphlaurenpolo claimsthewatch is Tag Aquaracer 20082 on saleor.
The notice of appeal was filed in the 5th District Court of Appeals earlier this month.
Although further filings will explain Pifer's arguments, the initial notice of appeal signed by her trial lawyer, Assistant Public Defender Larry Powers, said Pifer is appealing the sentence.
At John's Appliance City on Monday, managers seemed amused that Pifer was not happy with the time she will spend in prison. When she was sentenced for grand theft last month, Pifer faced up to 30 years.
When Pifer gets out of prison, she will be on probation for 10 years, Hutcheson ordered. She will have to make payments to Hinton as part of her release, although the exact terms of repayment were not determined.
Hinton, the business owner, confirmed he was notified of Pifer's appeal and will be awaiting further hearings.

BHSU softball team falls in Saturday home games

The Yellow Jacket women's softball team fell in consecutive home games as they hosted Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) opponent Adams State College. Black Hills State University was unable to keep the Grizzlies in check as they fell by scores of 0-3 and 5-16 respectively.
Black Hills State played well through the first game behind strongHow do internet users feel about nylonbag? pitching by senior Katie Wagner. The Yellow Jackets were unable to bring home stranded hitters to take an early lead, despite having four hits and three hitters reach on walks. The Yellow Jackets were led offensively by second basemen Kyley Barela. Barela recorded two of the team's four hits on three plate appearances. Left fielder Alex Huntington and center fielder Allie Alverson were also credited with one hit a piece on three at-bats. Georgetown, Georgia Tech women look for more production from top scorers in 2nd round matchup

Georgetown and Georgia Tech proved they can win in the women's NCAA tournament without big games from their stars.
Now that they're facing each other, they'd like for their top scorers to get going again.
The fourth-seeded Yellow Jackets (25-8) play fifth-seeded Georgetown (23-8) on Tuesday night in the second round of the Des Moines Regional.
Said Hoyas standout guard Sugar Rodgers: "I don't have to score 20 and 30 points a game for us to win."
No, but it sure helps.
Both teams' best players were oddly quiet — by their standards, anyway — in the first round. Rodgers finished with 11 points in a 61-56 win over Fresno State. You can find all the northfacejackets you need here.
Not bad, but consider this: The only team since November to hold her to fewer points was No. 1 seed Connecticut. Rodgers came to Chapel Hill averaging nearly 19.

Meanwhile, Tyaunna Marshall gave Georgia Tech even less.
She managed a season-low two points on 1-of-7 shooting in a 76-50 rout of Sacred Heart. Coach MaChelle Joseph indicated afterward that Marshall might have been too content to sit back and watch freshman Sydney Wallace put up a season-high 28 points.
"We don't even pay attention to (the fact that) she didn't play well yesterday," Georgetown coach Terri Williams-Flournoy said. "Sugar Rodgers didn't play well yesterday.Offering a huge selection of coats online store are selling great quality replica watches. Tech women advance in NCAAs with 76-50 win

Georgia Tech, the team without a home court, is enjoying success in the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament on an ACC rival's turf.
If they can get one more victory in North Carolina's Carmichael Arena, the Yellow Jackets can pack their bags for the regionals.
Georgia Tech took a successful first step in the NCAA tournament Sunday, dispatching Northeast Conference champion Sacred Heart 76-50 in the first round as freshman wing guard Sydney Wallace came off the bench to score a season-high 28 points.
The Yellow Jackets (25-8) will take on Georgetown,Buy louisvuittonborse online at Goldsmiths quality jewellers. a 61-56 winner over Fresno State, at 7 p.m.In our parmigiani monclerouterwear1 you can easily find a fake parmigiani replica uhren watch to wear it. Tuesday in the second round with a berth in the Des Moines (Iowa) Regional at stake.
The win over Sacred Heart (27-6) was the third in a row at Carmichael for Georgia Tech, which beat UNC here in each of the last two seasons. And it was never in doubt after the opening 10 minutes.
The Yellow Jackets trailed 9-7 when Sacred Heart senior forward Callan Taylor scored in the low post at the 14:25 mark. But Taylor picked up her second foul at 13:09 and went to the bench, and Georgia Tech promptly put together an 13-1 run to take the lead for good.
"It took us a while to get our feet under us," Georgia Tech coach MaChelle Joseph said. "We've been off for two weeks. Once we got our defense going, we were able to convert some easy baskets on the offensive end."
With 6-foot-5 post Sasha Goodlett powering her way inside to 12 points (nine in the first half) and 11 rebounds, Georgia Tech surged in front. Wallace made it 22-10 with a short jumper, but she was just getting warmed up. Over the final 8:16 of the half, she poured in 11 points without missing a shot – including a 3-of-3 effort from 3-point range.
She would end up 11-of-13 from the field, 6-of-8 on 3's, and blow away her previous high game of 16 points.
"We brought her to Georgia Tech to score, and she's done that in spurts," Joseph said.
"Today she took it to a whole other level. We have been a high reputed cheapjackets for quite a long time. One of the things we've been talking to her about is putting two halves together,We invite you to visit our latest collection of crybud. because we knew if she could put two halves together she could have big numbers. Today she stepped out there and really knocked down shots."
"I just went out there with confidence, and once I knocked down the first shot, I was very confident and just continued to shoot," Wallace said. "When I'm open and my teammates find me, it's my job to knock down the shots."
Wallace wasn't the only sub to contribute in the scoring column. Mo Bennett came off the bench to add 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting as the Yellow Jackets hit at a 52.9 percent clip from the field.
The efforts from Wallace and Bennett more than offset a subpar scoring day from Tyaunna Marshall, who finished with two points on 1-of-7 shooting, well off her team-leading 15.3 average.
"Usually when Ty struggles, we struggle to score," Joseph said. That wasn't the case Sunday, and Georgia Tech's defense never let Sacred Heart get comfortable on offense.
"It wasn't one of our better games, but I think Georgia Tech did a terrific job," Sacred Heart coach Ed Swanson said. "They are so athletic, and they took us out of what we wanted to do."
Up 36-21 at halftime, the Yellow Jackets had a 20-point lead in less than six minutes and reached as much as 30 (71-41) with 5:42 to play. Georgia Tech's full-court zone press helped account for 20 turnovers by Sacred Heart, which Tech converted into 31 points. Kermit the super dad uses art, imagination to connect with daughter

Apparently, an assortment of fairies visits the Mulkins residence from time to time bearing magical gifts. Last fall, Darbi received a surprise visit from Orohorn, the Frost Giant, who left her the egg in a nest on the porch.
"The story is ongoing," said her dad, Kermit. "She's been entrusted with the care of the egg while Orohorn is attending to the Giant War near 81st and Lewis. We found evidence of one of his battles when we discovered two large severed hands from a Bronze Giant that Orohorn must have slain."
When supernatural entities aren't paying them visits, the Mulkins family is frequently plugging into creative outlets, especially where Darbi's concerned.
"I love filling my kid's head with as much fanciful nonsense as I can," said Kermit, a graphic designer by day, and poet and lunch-bag artist extraordinaire at night.
So far, he's illustrated about 80 lunch bags for his daughter and wife, many of which he showcases on his website, tulsaworld.com/kermitmulkins
'Constant giddy anticipation'
"This one's my favorite," said Darbi, pointing to a bag with a drawing of the family's cat, Giacomo, throwing up on his head. "It's silly."
Giacomo, whom Kermit occasionally calls "Jerkimo," is a handful. Kermit is more fond of Lorraine, the other house cat.
But Darbi, "being an empathetic person,The great selection of wholesale bestledlighte at TradeTang. is the ultimate defender of Giacomo and calls me out on every transgression," he wrote on his website about the bag, which he titled "Giacomo Strikes Back!"
Art has figured prominently in Kermit's life since childhood.
When he was away for months at summer camp, his dad would mail him doodles and diagrams, and copies of research in shared interests - stuff like how to make bows, arrows, even potato guns.
"We'd also write stories together," Kermit said. "My mom wisely made sure to keep me in supply of blank paper. No coloring pages - she didn't want to inhibit creative exploration."
Fast forward to the old Blockbuster store at 71st Street and Memorial Drive where he worked, when a pretty girl named Maria came in looking for a copy of a Muppets movie. It was "kismet," he said. And it didn't hurt that his name was Kermit.
About 10 years later, they've created a creative home environment for Darbi, who's a first-grader at Riverfield Country Day School. Last year, when the zipper on her favorite lunch bag broke, a crisis developed.
"She cried," Kermit recalled, "and, on the spot ... I drew a five-second cat doodle. She's obsessed with cats."
He wouldn't let her see it so that it would be a surprise when she opened her bag later at school. It was a hit, so he kept doodling, creating more intricate designs - most involving cats.
First, he does a loose pencil sketch, then inks it before coloring with Prismacolor pencils. How do internet users feel about nylonbag? If he decides on a poem, he'll run the brown bag through the typewriter. He does this at night, sometimes spending a few hours on one bag. Each one is a surprise, so Darbi doesn't see hers until the next day at lunch.
"It's a way of having something to look forward to," Kermit said, "and I think it's helping Darbi learn the concept of 'good things come to those who wait.' Also, it's nice to have a connection while we're not together. In Style Accessories collecting cheapcanadagoose0 to donate to shelters."
For Maria, he'll combine art and his knack for poetry. Her favorite is "Your Scalding Hot Bath," as she's fond of steamy,Learn more about Largest Discount miumiureplicahandbags. luxurious soaks.
"It's the most comforting thing in the world to know that what we share in our family is enough to drive Kermit to such creative heights," Maria said. "I get to live with the constant giddy anticipation of the next day's lunch sack - even if he's just packed an apple."
His art keeps their family excited about life, about one another, she continued.
"He has really shown us how important it is to keep our creative juices flowing, even if it is small," Maria said. "We have bonded so much over these lunch sacks; it's to the point that I can't imagine life without them."
Plus, Darbi looks forward to hers, as well - as do her classmates, some of whom have tried sneaking into her school bag to steal a peek at what her dad's done this time.
He's always enjoyed blending art with writing, and he plans to keep doing so, whether it's on lunch sacks or using other media, Kermit said.
"It's been suggested that I should do a comic strip or greeting cards,Intensify your own Grace with ralphlaurenhoody." he said. "That'd be fun, too. I do believe I'm sentimental enough."

Georgia Tech (24-8) has never made it past the second round, keeping the program from gaining more national recognition despite six straight NCAA appearances.
For Joseph, the team's ninth-year coach, getting to the tournament is no longer good enough. The Yellow Jackets need to take the next step — to win at least two tournament games and advance to the round of 16 for the first time.
"That's something we've talked about all year," Joseph said Thursday. "For this program, a Sweet 16 would be just another step forward to making us a perennial power in women's basketball. We know that to be an established program,We've seen all the best canadagoosecoat of 2011. you've got to have some success in the postseason."
The Yellow Jackets are better positioned to make such a run than ever before.
This team is on quite a roll, having won 15 of 17 games and going to the wire with fifth-ranked Maryland before losing a 68-65 thriller in the championship game at the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament.
Then Georgia Tech received a No. 4 seed, its highest ever in the tournament, and was sent to the very familiar surroundings of Chapel Hill, N.C. — where it plays each season as part of the ACC schedule — for an opening-round game against 13th-seeded Sacred Heart (25-7) on Sunday.
More important for the Yellow Jackets,Our Gucci online store monclerjacketswomens. the first two rounds will be played on a true neutral court.
In those previous postseason appearances, Joseph's team was usually sent to some faraway site in the Midwest, where one of the other teams had the huge advantage of playing on its home court. The players knew their chances of advancing beyond the second round were slim before they even got on the plane.
