The spirit of Christmas convoys across Fortuna

After months of planning, the Fortuna Volunteer Fire Department Santa Sleigh Program was ready to roll. On Christmas Eve morning about 50 volunteers came together to load the two old fire trucks full of Christmas treasures to reach out to around 200 Fortuna area families. The volunteers are made up of community members and families of the Fortuna Volunteer Fire Department.

It all began this year with applications from local residents to be participants of the program. A committee then reviews the applications and accepts the ones they can fulfill based on supplies. Our cheapchaneljewelle look, work and feel exactly like the originals,

Many in our community can understand the hard times upon us with the strain of the economy. Yet, even with their hardships, people still want to help those less fortunate than them. Whether they are out of a job or fallen on hard times, the community of Fortuna pulls together to try and make a little sunshine.

The chosen families were assigned to members of the Santa Sleigh team. That team used the needs listed on the application to shop for those individual families from the supplies donated to the Santa Sleigh Program. This shopping experience goes on over a two-week period leading up to the heart-warming convoy day deliveries.

The specially-made bags for each family are highly organized with names, addresses, and number of bags while being placed in order for quick locating during the distribution process.

Clothing coordinator Pam Berry worked feverishly to organize and obtain winter coats and other items needed by these families. More than 400 coats made their way to the program and into the homes of Fortuna area residents.

Route coordinator Ricky Ruud created two teams to get the job done that sunny crisp morning. Volunteers were separated into red and green teams with separate routes for the day's gifting. Each team was backed by multiple trucks loaded with food and jackets.

The toy drive is crucial to the event and Nicole Foley took on the role as coordinator to ensure enough were obtained in the months leading up to the event. Not only are toys provided to the participant families, but many children on the green and red routes come out of their homes to see Santa and Mrs. Claus. Those children are delighted by the unexpected visit, candy canes, and toys handed out by Santa.

"I love this program," Foley said.Take advantage of our authenticsunglasses today. "It is such a great thing and such a great lesson for the kids who help."

Santa and his crew took an early afternoon break to fuel-up on a lunch organized by the Sleigh Committee.

An added treat this year was 70 turkeys donated by Bear River Casino and Eel River Disposal. The community really stepped up this year and in a time of hardship gave with all their hearts.

"This event started many years ago just as an idea to go see sick kids, special needs kids, and our elderly," said David Ansley, who many in the Santa Sleigh Program attribute the creation of the event to --along his fellow firemen. "Every year we would get more requests from people to go see their siblings, grandparents, and so on. ... The idea just grew from there and now we have this program that just gets better and better every year!"

FVFD Chief Lon Winburn agreed.

"I would have to say the most amazing thing about the whole program is the support we receive from the community, both monetarily and with man power," Winburn said. "It does not seem to matter how touch times are, the people in this community always step up and make things happen. We could never accomplish this program year in and year out without their support."

The volunteers find all the hard work to be worth it at the first smile and joy in the eyes of the families they visit. One volunteer said, "I just can't get over the look in their eyes and pure joy as they see gifts, food, and clothing delivered."

The FVFD Santa Sleigh Program is one that really goes all year. The committee will meet one final time this season to discuss what went well and what new ideas they have to improve it. They seek funding throughout the year to support the annual event and gladly take donations of new jackets at any time. The winter sales are among us and the jackets are beginning to go on clearance.High quality replica mencanadagooseparkaforcheap of well known brands .

"We got a last minute call about a boy who needed a warm coat after we did our Christmas Eve deliveries," Winburn said. "So a couple of our volunteers put together a package with food,Buy wholesale new chloehandbags products on TradeTang. gifts, and the jacket to deliver. The grin on the boy's face was absolutely priceless."

The Santa Sleigh Program is very grateful for the support of the community and its volunteers.
